Lymph, Stress and Chiropractic Care from A Chiropractor in The Hague

What’s the most powerful system in your body that you never hear about?

The lymphatic system!

The Lymphatic system is the main carrier if your immune system as well as the method to remove waste from the cells

As a chiropractor, we are primarily concerned with the spine and how well the brain and body are in communication through the nervous system. No system in the body works on their own. Sometimes, your immune system is not functioning properly, causing chronic inflammation in your tissue cells and slowing or stoping the healing process.

"It’s the clear liquid that surrounds the cells of your body. Except for cartilage, nails, and hair, your entire body is bathed in lymph. You are literally swimming in lymphatic fluid, so its nickname is the Body Aquarium.

If you have a chronic pain or illness like Lyme, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, IBS, Crohn’s Disease, etc., you will have a lymphatic problem. You just need to discover how much.

Ever wonder why chronic pain doesn’t get better despite all your therapy and medications? Your lymphatic system may be the problem. If the body can’t rid of cellular waste during the healing process, the inflammation simply stays in the tissues causing pain. If it can’t get out of the body, you can’t get better.

Feeling hopeless, tired, fatigued, poor concentration and overwhelmed with lack of progress in your recovery? You need to check your lymph. The lymph is connected to your brain and your brain can’t function optimally when the lymph is dysfunctional."

from Dr Perry Nickelston

Stress and Lymph:

The adrenal gland is the primary manufacturing site for the stress hormone, cortisol. While small, intermittent dosages of cortisol throughout the day are manageable by the body, excessive amounts can have a adverse effect.

Like a fireman putting out fires, the adrenals secrete cortisol to stop stress-related reduction in the flow of vital nutrients to the affected area.

Cortisol is good, but too much of a good thing can be bad.

When we experience longterm and excessive stress, things begin to break down. Not only can excessive stress severely compromise the lymphatic system, the lymphatic system is also directly innervated by the fight-or-flight, sympathetic nervous system.

Sympathetic stress initially helps the lymph remove toxic particles from the stressed area.

But when stress is excessive, the lymphatic response can be slowed, allowing dangerous toxins to migrate to different areas of the body through the lymphatics

Cortisol’s acidic nature can cause a breakdown of lymphoid tissue and impede lymphatic flow.

Chronic exposure to cortisol can also disrupt immune function, reducing the circulation of protective antibodies and increase our susceptibility to infection and disease.

If you think of the lymph system like a fish tank, Your cells are the fish and the water in the tank is the lymph, with the filtration system underneath as the lymph drainage system. Now, if that filtration system crashes, the water slowly becomes toxic to the fish ( but a great environment for other things to live, like bacteria or viruses). The fish( tissue cell) will become ill and over time die.

So given the fundamental role the lymphatic system plays in our health and overall wellbeing, managing stress to keep the lymph healthy and free-flowing is crucial. An important aspect to out At Home Care is a Lymph Clearing protocol for folks who have chronic inflammation. This helps reduce inflammation in the body while we work on your nervous system to get back to functioning at a higher level.
