What are the causes of neck pain?
Sudden causes such as lifting, falling, an accident or a wrong movement.
Gradual causes such as persistent incorrect posture (when sitting, standing or lying down), too little physical activity, weak abdominal and back muscles, heavy lifting, bending and twisting, stress, overweight, pregnancy or old age (wear and tear)
Neck complaints can manifest themselves in different ways. Neck complaints can appear as pain, stiffness or restricted movement. Pain can be sharp, stabbing, dull or, for example, nagging. The neck pain may be localized in the neck or radiate to other parts of the spine, the shoulder, or to the arms or hands. The complaint can be constant, get worse with movement or with rest. Furthermore, other feelings may also occur such as tingling, prickling.
